To Design a TieDown System for Shearwalls that meets Code:
These are the steps Commins Mfg uses to design a system for you.
You can use these steps with our software to gain more control of the design process.

  1. Collect the information needed from the plans
    Input:    Plan Set
    Output: Data required to complete the project.
 
   
  2. Run Sorter (optional)
    Input:    Load at each reaction point. Locations of all runs.
    Action:  Enter Data. Group runs to minimize different run types.
    Output:  List of all runs organized in groups. Count of runs in each group
 
   
  3. AutoDesigner
    Input:  Project, Contractor & Engineer Info
        Building codes & elongation limits
        Carpet to Carpet heights each level
        Tension Load at each reaction point
        Wood Framing plans (locations of all runs)
    Action: 
        "Project Info" page:  Enter data in all fields.
        "LJ Table" page:  Enter each run type name and quantity.
            Enter tension loads and run start types.
    Output:
        Rods, TakeUp Devices & bearing plates at each level of each run
        Load capacity and elongation at each level of each run
        Materials list organized by run type
        Materials list totaled by part types
 
   
  4. Calculation Package
    Input: AutoDesigner Data
    Action:
        Push button 1 to enter data from AutoDesigner
        Push button 2 to print (to a PDF)
    Output:
        Calculations ready for Stamping
 
   
  5. Drawings:  
   
    AT10 Holdown Run Details
    Input:   Project, Contractor & Engineer Info, codes & elongation limits
    Action: Fill in project specific data, Plot to a PDF
    Output: Construction Drawing ready for Stamping
 
   
    AT11 Holdown Run Elevations
    Input:   AutoDesigner Input and Output Data, Plans
    Action: Fill in project specific data in title block.
        Copy pre-built run assemblies
        Replace or edit blocks as needed (using library)
        Edit each attribute of each run as needed.
            Data is in AutoDesign "2-LJ Table" and "3-Run TO" and in Plans
        Plot to a PDF
    Output: Construction Drawing ready for Stamping
 
   
     AT12 Anchor Bolt Details (Optional)
    Input:   AutoDesigner Input and Output Data, Plans
    Action: Fill in project specific data in title block.
        Copy pre-built assemblies. Replace or edit blocks as needed.
        Fill in Anchor Bolt Embedment Schedule Tables
        Plot to a PDF
    Output: Construction Drawing ready for Stamping
 
   
  At your request Commins Mfg will review and comment on your design at no charge.
Send design 

User name and password are required to download Excel Spreadsheets or AutoCAD Drawings.
Please go to Sign Up page, agree to terms and request access in the comments box.

Adobe PDF files are freely available.
